An new guest over for dinner

Spaghetti was delish, rolls were nice, and for dessert we had Girl Scout ice cream. The cookie to ice cream ratio is off and that makes me sad. I love the Samoa ice cream and wait all year for it.

Maybe it's the memory of being a girl scout and selling door cookies in front of the grocery store and knowing the power of the lisp. While I never had a real speech impediment, I could look up from under long braids and ask, "Pleath Mither, would you pleath buy some cookieths for Girl Thcouths?

I use this power of speech inflections to even present day. Sometimes it's completely automatic and other times intentional. I can mimic almost any accent in a conversation and it's even easier over the phone. It amused coworkers when I did phone work back in the day.

You were a girl scout? They actually sell cookies?

I can't say I've ever had Girl Scout Ice-Cream... I have a feeling I've completely missed out on something nice :(

I use a similar method in the technical support field.

I call it:

My, "I couldn't give a shit that you have a problem" tone of voice.

It goes like this:

Customer: "Hi..our entire site is down and we're losing millions of dollars every minute."

Me: "Oooohkay. Can you hold please? I just had a cup of coffee and it really makes me have to poo. I'll be back with you within a half-hour. Big supper, you know."

This is why I don't get many "Employee of the Year" awards.

TV - I had an offer for work like that, but I have a real hard time even saying swear words. Reading your blog though loosens me up so I can read it without feeling like I'm going to get in trouble.

LBB - I don't have a microphone (I think) but I can probably figure out something with a camera---it makes poor video but does sound okay.

elise - Alas my girl scout adventures were short lived. During a "Let's learn tolerance for the blind" exercise, I had to lead a blindfolded girl around the playground. Of course I was chatty and stopped paying attention and walked her into a basketball post. It (as my luck went) was the leader's daughter and she never really forgave me the giant knot on her darling's head.

M+(ox6)+35=At the time I was paid in sales, so I didn't learn your technique until my paycheck was the same if I took my break while someone was on hold or helped helpfully. :P

PP - Eat up - they also sell thin mint and tagalog...

rll - all the serious diets don't begin until February 1. By then people have dropped off the gym membership and lost interest. So enjoy now!

I'm so gullible- I almost want to go buy Girl Scout cookies after just reading your plea.

Are you aware that the GS in our area are not selling Samoas this year? They were taken off the list. Sorry to bum you out.

Hummm - this year I have not been accosted buy GS's but I have heard the name of the cookie might be changed to Caramel deLite.

Unless the amount of fat was so high that they were banned for our safety.

Maybe that is why there were very few cookie bits in my ice cream this year. But shucks! Ice cream is supposed to be bad for you. :-{
